LTBU: Albert Pujols Crushes Dramatic Game Winning HR, Angels Win 9-7

After snapping a six-game losing streak last night, the Angels looked to keep it rolling as they faced off against the Seattle Mariners for game two at Safeco Field.  New acquired Jhoulys Chacin toed the rubber for the Angels, as he opposed Seattle right hander, Hisashi Iwakuma.

The Mariners opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as Adam Lind hit a two-run homer to center, giving them a 2-0 lead. The Angels clawed their way back as Daniel Nava singled home a run in the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1. In the top of the seventh, Johnny Giavotella would go deep to tie the game up at two. Later in the inning, Yunel Escobar singled home another run as the Angels took a 3-2 lead and chased Iwakuma from the game. He was relieved by Joel Peralta, who came in and gave up back-to-back solo home run to Kole Calhoun and Mike Trout as the Angels extended their lead to 6-2.

In the eighth, Mike Morin relieved Chacin and gave up two runs on back-to-back one -out RBI singles by Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz to cut the lead to 6-4. He was then relieved by Fernando Salas, who struck out Kyle Seager for out number two. Next batter was Adam Lind, who laced a double down the right field line scoring two runners and tying up the game at six. Then Steve Clevenger would give the Mariners the lead as he doubled to right scoring another run and giving the Mariners a 7-6 lead. The Angels would go to the pen again and call upon Cam Bedrosian.

Bedrosian after allowing a single to Ketel Marte, would get out of the inning as he struck out Leonys Martin. In the ninth, the Mariners called upon closer, Steve Cishek to get the final three outs of the ballgame. After retiring the first batter, Cishek hit Calhoun on the foot putting a run on first for Mike Trout. Trout would single to left as the Angels had two on and one out for Albert Pujols. Pujols would then crush a 1-1 fastball into the seats in left for a three-run home run, giving the Angels a 9-7 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, Joe Smith would come in to close for the Angels, and retired the Mariners in order to seal the victory for the Angels.

The winning pitcher was Cam Bedrosian, who improves to 1-0. Steve Cishek picks up the loss and falls to 2-3. Joe Smith notches his third save of the season. The Angels improve to 14-21, while the Mariners are 21-15. The series concludes on Sunday at 1:10 PT as Hector Santiago takes on Felix Hernandez in the finale.
