Angels 2017 Player Predictions: CF Mike Trout

Updated: March 29, 2017

Welcome to Halo Headquarters Angels 2017 Player Predictions. It’s time to start with the Outfield. Next up Center Fielder Mike Trout.

Mike Trout is the leader of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and will once again show why he is one of the greatest players in baseball today. In his five years with the Angels, Trout has been runner up three times, and crowned MVP for two of them.

Last year, Trout led the Majors in runs (123), walks (116), on-base percentage (.441), OPS+ (174), weighted runs created plus (171) and both the Baseball Reference (10.6) and FanGraphs (9.4) versions of the Wins Above Replacement stat.

Would you believe he is just the second player to lead the AL in WAR (Wins Above Replacement) five straight years? The other was a guy named Babe Ruth.Mike Trout is one of those baseball players, nobody will ever forget about.

The Angels star led the league with a .441 on-base percentage and his .991 OPS was second only to Ortiz (1.021), who is handicapped in the MVP race by being a DH. Trout also led the league with 123 runs and 116 walks.

Last year he also hit 29 homers and stole 30 bases, barely missing the second 30-30 season of his career. He also played his normal outstanding defense in center field, although it didn’t get him even a top-three finish in the competitive AL Gold Glove voting. For this season, I expect nothing but the same from the MVP.
