The Angels’ offense continued to struggle; this time, it didn’t matter, as they broke their four game losing streak. Jered Weaver held the Rangers to only two runs on four hits while striking out eight in six and two-thirds innings.

For the second night in a row, the Halos’ starting pitcher was victimized for two home runs by one player; last night it was Carlos Gomez, today Adrian Beltre went deep twice. The Angels were able to counter with three home runs of their own off of Rangers’ starter Colby Lewis, one by Yunel Escobar and two by Andrelton Simmons.

Simmons tripled his home run total in one game today from one to three, and it was the first home runs for either hitter since they both went deep on April 27th.

Lewis had a decent first start back since being placed on the disabled list in June, going five plus innings and only allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Andrew Bailey completed the game for his third save with the Angels without allowing a baserunner, and remains perfect in his three save chances with the Halos. The final score; Angels 3, Rangers 2.

Game Notes: The Angels’ have scored more than three runs only once in the last five games, going 1-4 in that span… Albert Pujols continued to struggle, going hitless yet again to finish the series 0-13 with four strikeouts… Mike Trout struck out three times and went hitless to snap his hot streak… Beltre entered the game batting .218 with only one home run against Weaver in eighty-seven at bats before homering twice against him today… Weaver set a season high in strikeouts today with eight, besting his previous high of six… Bailey has not allowed a hit or a run and has only walked one batter in his four innings of work as an Angel.

Looking Ahead: The Angels will counter the Mariners and their starter Ariel Miranda (3-1, 4.79) tomorrow night with pitcher Ricky Nolasco (5-13, 4.90 ERA) to start the first of a three game series. Game time 7:05 PM.
