Angels 4 Rangers 5

April 26th 2015 (Game 019)

ANAHEIM – The Los Angeles went into the 9th with a 3-2 lead, but would blow a save opportunity and the chance to make it four straight wins. The Angeles would head into extras and end up losing thanks to Leonys Martin led of Home Run in the 11th inning. The Texas Rangers would add another un in the 11th because of Erick Aybar’s second error of the game. Jose Alvarez was the Angels pitcher in the 11th, as he was working his second inning of relief. He fell behind Martin on a 3-0 count and would battle back to make it a full count at bat, until Martin would get his first home run of the season.

Angels started out the day with lefty Hector Santiago who only allowed two runs -one earned- through 5 innings of work. Hector got no run support at all as the Angels left multiple runners on the base. The Angels constant problem of hitting with runners in scoring position could hurt them in the long run. However Santiago did have a season high of six walks which made the Rangers have more opportunity to score often. On the other hand, Nick Martinez of the Rangers scattered seven hits, through six innings and allowed zero runs with even getting out of a bases loaded jam in the 3rd inning.

AL MVP Mike Trout would tie the score 2-all in the seventh with a two-run homer against reliever Anthony Bass. In this fish battle, Trout was victorious. Johnny Giavotella put the Angels ahead in the eighth with a bases-loaded RBI single off Shawn Tolleson After C.J. Cron singled for his fourth straight hit. However the Angels would not take over the game in the eighth as Trout and Pujols both did not bring any runs in with the bases loaded.

Joe Smith came on in the ninth for his first save opportunity of the season and would retire the first two batters. Houston Street got the day off as he pitched the last three days. Smith would go on to allow three consecutive singles, including a tying hit by Mitch Moreland. The rest is history, as the Rangers would win the last game of the series in the 11th.
