Angels Opening Day Blowout

Updated: April 4, 2016

Opening day at Angel stadium! Was a complete embarrassment for city of Anaheim. Garrett Richards getting his first opening day start of his career. Gives up the first inning the Cubs strike first with a single up the middle by Rizzo scoring Dexter fowler from third making it a 1-0 Cubs lead. The Angels attempted to strike back but went one, two, three in the bottom of the first. It was quiet second for the Cubs and Calhoun pulled one down the rightfully line for the Angels first hit.

After bleak third inning, the Cubs are threatening to score after Richards, giving up two walks to Bryant and Rizzo. After a lengthy at bat Schwarber, moved the runners on a ground out to first. A single from Soler, scored Rizzo and Bryant to third 2-0. Bryant, scored on a single from Montero 3-0 cubbies. Richards, then struck out the last two remaining batters. After a decent outing Richards, passes the torch to Fernando Salas, in the the top of the sixth and got the first two outs but gave up a two run shot to Miguel Montero.

Arrieta, putting up a dominate performance with the Angels unable to answer back after 6 scoreless. Cam Bedrosian, came to shut down the Cubs in the seventh but allowed a run making it 6-0 lead for the Cubs. Arrieta, blowing through the Angels, only allowing two hits in seven shutout innings. C.j Cron opened up the bottom of the seventh with a double to right center field, but the Angels failed to capitalize on the lead off double.
Top of the ninth Cory Rasmus comes into relief. Loads the bases and Szczur unloads the base with a 2 out double to left making it 9-0. Leaving a lifeless ninth inning by the Angels offense to an epic demise.

The Angels failed to get going offensively against the Cy young award winner. The aggressiveness and almost reckless play by the Angels was nowhere to be seen by the Angels lineup. Richards, had a fairly decent start against a team predicted by many to go to the World Series. But Angel stadium fell to the powerhouse, that is the Chicago Cubs. This an opening day to forget even for the great Mike Trout and Albert Pujols both failed to record a hit in the home opener. Somber tone filled the stadium as fans felt the wrath of the Cubs. The Angels can hope for a split this series after a disappointing game when Andrew Heaney goes head to head with Jon Lester.
