LTBU: Angels Pillage Pirates In Series Opener

The Angels begin a three game series vs Pittsburgh this weekend taking the first game by a score of 9-2. Jared Weaver started on the rubber for game one, he went 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.

The two earned runs were both solo homers early in the game, Weaver was solid after giving up those two. Luckily, Angels offense gave him plenty of support early in the game, scoring 7 runs in the first four innings. Notably a home run by Kole Calhoun early on in the match. The bullpen did not give up any runs in this game surprisingly, even though the game was closed out by Luis Gaverra, who currently has a 8.31 ERA this season.

This was a great night for Angels baseball, and if the Astros beat the Athletics, the Angels are no longer in last place of the AL west, let’s hope that we keep this momentum and keep moving up the rungs, of the daunting ladder that we know as the AL west. This division will be tough this season and the Angels are currently 7 back of the first place Mariners.

We can look at this game and gain a new sense of hope. Why? The Pittsburgh Pirates are currently 2nd in the NL central. Which is Arguably the toughest division in all of baseball, the past three seasons, they have had three teams from that division make the post season. So to score 9 runs on a team like that? Is something that we can take to the bank. Tomorrow, game 2 vs these very same pirates begins at 1:05 PT. Let’s hope we see the same offensive explosion that we saw in tonight’s matchup.
