Angels pitcher Tim Lincecum goes 5 Innings, allows 3 earned runs in first AAA start

Updated: June 2, 2016

Angels pitcher Tim Lincecum has just finished his first start in AAA with the Bee’s, was it a good start? Let’s take a look at his first game in the Halo’s organization.

It was a little nervous start for Lincecum, but he would finish the game strong. In his first two innings for the Bees, he allowed 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 walks. Lincecum would even balk in a run. It has been a while since the Freak has been on the mound professional, hence he still has to get through the little small problems of pitching. Besides that he would settle in and keep throwing 1-2-3 Innings.

Lincecum threw 15 pitches in the 3rd, and only 10 pitches in the 4th. The Freak was also touching around 90 MPH in his first start. He would the 5th inning by hitting the batter, and walking someone, but would finish it be getting out the next 3 batters. He was calm and collected. After 5, his current line, 5IP, 3H, 3 ER, #BB and 5K’s 88 pitches.

Halo HQ Staff Writer Sarah Miles, went inside the career of Lincecum and asked the question can “The Freak” ever come back?. On May 28th, 2016, Tim Lincecum threw 75 pitches in 5 innings of work in an extended Spring Training appearance in Tempe, Arizona. He gave up just two runs and two hits, averaging between 88-90 mph.

In his 9 seasons with the San Francisco Giants, Lincecum posted a 3.61 ERA with a 108-83 record. His 2015 season with the Giants was cut short due to injury when he was forced to have hip surgery to repair a degenerative hip issue that resulted in instability rather than pain. Before that, he had only pitched 76 1/3 innings with a 4.13 ERA.

At the end of his career with the Giants, Tim Lincecum’s decline in velocity increased his trouble on the mound. While his velocity in the extended Spring Training appearance was not as high as it was pre-hip injury, it seems as though he has not skipped a beat.
