Angels Shut Out A’s

Angels 2 Athletics 0

April 23th 2015 (Game 016)

ANAHEIM – Nick Tropeano pitched a five-hit ball into the seventh inning of his Angels debut this afternoon. The Angels only needed one hit of the ball game today as, Calhoun’s two-run home run was all that was needed for the Angels to blank the A’s 2-0. The Oakland Athletics totaled for eight hits yet they could not score a run to make this ball game interesting. Calhoun homered in the third to bring in Butera who was replacing Chris Iannetta today behind the plate. Tropeano was very impressive in his first start, yielding one walk and striking out five. Back-up Catcher Hank Conger was in the trade that sent Tropeano to the Angels from the Astros. Tropeano went 1/3 with a 4.57 ERA in his first four major league starts with Houston last September. Already Tropeano has his first win as an Angel. Tropeano showed up into the starting pitching rotation as C.J Wilson’s stiff Elbow and Shoemaker’s bereavement leave, gave him his first start for the Angels.

The Bullpen for the Angels came in and did it’s job as well. Fernando Salas and Joe Smith both got out of a jam in the 7th and 8th as Calhoun diving catch and key strikeouts lead the Angels to the top of the 9th with Houston Street coming in. Street pitched in the ninth for his fifth save allowing his first baserunner of the season Marcus Semien’s.
