Angels Spring Training Prospect Report

Updated: March 6, 2017

This prospect report will be updated weekly. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are going to need help on the pitching side, but what about the other prospects who may shine in Spring Training and steal a roster spot.

Here are the top prospects for the 2017 Angels.

Top Prospects in MLB Camp

2. 1B Matt Thaiss (4-for-8, 1 RBI, 1 R)

4. LHP Nate Smith (4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K)

5. RHP Keynan Middleton (2.0 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K)

7. C Taylor Ward (1-for-1)

8. RHP Alex Meyer (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K)

Via Bleacher Report Matt Thaiss was viewed as one of the most polished college bats in the 2016 draft class, and it’s not out of the question to think he could make his MLB debut at some point in 2017. He’ll likely open the year at the High-A level but could move quickly.

Keynan Middleton took off last season after moving to the bullpen. The 23-year-old posted a 3.41 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 88 strikeouts in 66 innings while reaching Triple-A, putting him in position to debut in the not-too-distant future.

Nate Smith (25) and Alex Meyer (27) are both on the high-end of the age scale as far as prospects are concerned, and they represent the best the Angels have in terms of rotational depth.

Stay tuned for more info on the Angels prospects and where they will land in the system. Good Luck Prospects.
