Mike Trout was not enough for the Angels to beat Felix Hernandez. Trout blasted a homer against Hernandez in his first at-bat of the season, just as he did to begin his MVP season a year ago. Like last year though, the Seattle Mariners ace shut down the Angels. After the home run by Trout, King Felix locked down and gave the Angels their first lost of the season.

Besides Trout, only Erick Aybar was able to start some type of rally with a fifth-inning single. The Angels only mustard two hits against Hernandez in his seven innings. The Angels had potential to tie the game up several times with Aybar and C.J Cron on first and second with no outs in the fifth-inning, yet Chris Iannetta struck out and Johnny Giavotella hit into a double play.

Besides the fifth-inning, Trout came up with potentially the tying run at the plate in the eighth. Trout stranded two runners when Carson Smith struck him out, Trout finished the day with a Home Run and three strikeouts.

Weaver was on the mound for the Angels who made his seventh career opening day start, and gave up four runs in six innings.

Winning Pitcher: Felix Hernandez (1-0)

Losing Pitcher: Jered Weaver (0-1)

MVP Of Angels: Mike Trout: 1-4, HR, 3K’s
