Can Blake Parker and Bud Norris Hold Down the Bullpen?

It’s only April and the Angels are already without some of their main bullpen pieces. Limiting injuries was one of the main keys to success for 2017, but luckily it’s still early.

The bullpen has lost Huston Street, Andrew Bailey, Cam Bedrosian, and Mike Morin, but it’s not time to panic. This off-season the Angels did a good job of acquiring bullpen depth in case this happened. Both veterans Bud Norris and Blake Parker have stepped up nicely for the Halos.

The Angels are going to need Norris and Parker to carry the load in the bullpen. This season Norris has pitched in nine games with a 3.72 ERA and one save going into Monday’s game. He’s struck out 11 and has yet to allow a home run this season.

The other man right beside him is 31-year-old Blake Parker. He was a long shot to make the Opening Day roster when Spring Training began. Funny how things change as now Parker is looked as one of the key members of the Angels bullpen.

Going into Monday’s game, Parker has pitched in 10 games with a 2.89 ERA with 15 strikeouts and just two walks allowed. Similar to Norris he’s been able to keep the ball in the park and has yet to allow a home run this season.

The Angels acquired veteran David Hernandez on Monday which should bring some depth to the Halos’ pen. Both Norris and Parker have been doing a great job out of the bullpen, but they will need help. Right now it’s working, but let’s hope for a speedy recovery for the guys on the disabled list.
