Carlos Rodon, White Sox Shutout The Angels

After dropping the opener of the series 8-2 on Monday night , the Angels continued their series against the Chicago White Sox, Tuesday night at U.S Celluar Field. The pitching match-up for game two was Hector Santiago for the Angels, against rookie, Carlos Rodon for the White Sox.

Hector Santiago started the game retiring the first ten batters, before allowing a one-out single in the fourth to Tyler Saladino. Next batter was Jose Abreu, who was hit by pitch, making it first and second with one out. Melky Cabrera then hit a two-run double, scoring Saladino and Abreu and giving the Sox, a 2-0 lead. In the fifth, White Sox rookie, Trayce Thompson hit a solo home run to center to make it 3-0 White Sox. Carlos Rodon would shut down the Angels offense, allowing no runs through seven innings. In the eighth, Zach Duke relieved Rodon and loaded up the bases with one-out for Albert Pujols. Pujols would then ground into a double play to end the inning. Cory Rasmus, who relieved Santiago in the sixth, pitched the remaining two and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball. In the ninth, David Robertson came in to close, and retired the side in order, as the White Sox shutout the Angels 3-0.

Losing Pitcher: Hector Santiago (7-6), 5.1 IP, 4H, 3ER, 1BB, 4SO

The Angels will look to avoid the sweep, as they play the finale against the White Sox, Wednesday night at 5:10 PT. The probable pitchers for game three are, Andrew Heaney (5-1, 2.45 ERA), for the Angels, against John Danks (6-9, 4.79 ERA), for the White Sox.

Side Note:

Trayce Thompson, brother of NBA star Klay Thompson grew up in nearby Santa Margarita, California and was an Angel fan growing up. He played his first game against his childhood team today, and hit first MLB home run in the fifth inning off Hector Santiago.
