Introducing Halo HQ’s Top 10 Angel Prospects

By
Updated: January 23, 2017

Angels fans, rejoice! According to Keith Law of ESPN, our minor league system is no longer the worst in the league. In fact, there are three teams that rank below us, as we ring in at number 27 on his latest list. That’s a pretty big leap for a team that had one of the worst systems in recent history just a year ago.

While we are in a better position than we were in last season, there’s still a ways to go. Thanks to a strong 2016 draft class and the efforts of Billy Eppler to find forgotten pitching prospects, we should continue to rise over the next few years. For now, we have a few quality prospects that can make a difference at the major league level. Without further ado, here are your Halo HQ Top Ten Prospects.

#10 Nonie Williams

#9 Keynan Middleton

#8 Vicente Campos

#7 David Fletcher

#6 Taylor Ward

#5 Brandon Marsh

#4 Alex Meyer

#3 Nate Smith

#2 Matt Thaiss

#1 Jahmai Jones

Quick Notes:

  • Out of the ten, three were drafted in 2016 (Thaiss, Marsh, Williams)
  • There are also three drafted in 2015 (Jones, Ward, Fletcher)
  • Three were first round draft picks (Thaiss, Meyer, Ward)
  • Only five were in the Angels system to begin the 2016 season (Jones, Smith, Ward, Fletcher, Middleton)
  • Two were in different systems to begin 2016 (Meyer, Campos)
  • Campos is the lone prospect who was an international signee
  • Three are still under 20 in Jones (19), Marsh (19), and Williams (18)
  • Meyer is the oldest of the group at 27

Over the next few weeks, each player will be evaluated and have a full scouting report published here on Halo HQ.
