Jose Fernandez could have been one of the greatest all time cuban baseball players. Rest In Peace.

Fernandez was traveling in a boat that was going a significant amount of speed when it struck rocks along the channel near the port of Miami. This would result in the death of Miami Marlins pitcher and his two close friends.

The pitcher was killed as a result of the impact of the boat hitting the rocks. Fernandez  did not drown according to multiple sources. Lorenzo Veloz an official with the Florida Wildlife Commission confirmed via USA Today Sports.

The Cuban role model was not driving the boat when it struck, according to sources. The two close friends are waiting to be identified pending notification of their own family members.

The boat also was not a part of any alcohol related scenes and believed to not be a factor in the crash. However toxicology results will not be available until autopsies are performed.

Veloz said Fernandez and his friends made frequent trips on the boat, and that he saw other Marlins players on the boat on occasions he stopped it for safety checks.
