LTBU: Angels Split with White Sox

Updated: April 21, 2016

The Angels split the series against the Chicago White sox.

A briskly played ball game throughout. Jared Weaver, bounced back after a shaky start in Minnesota. Weaver, threw seven strong innings only surrendering three hits and one earned run. Weaver’s makeup never really produced a lot of strikeouts, but even with his fastball losing velocity he has showed that he can get outs effectively.

This outing showed that intensity and competitiveness that weaver possesses. Joe Smith, who struggles have plagued his 2016 career came into the eighth and shut down the Sox. Huston Street, came into the game and gave Angel fans a heart attack after giving up a run in the ninth. Street reliable as always closed the game in the ninth.

The bats fell short in this 3-1 ball game. Mostly walks from Angel players, but Mike Trout clutched up for the Halos in the fifth launching a two run shot to left center field. Runners left on base has been a problem so far for the Angels and today there was plenty. Reluctantly, the Angels were able to manufacture another run by Carlos Perez giving himself up on a sacrifice bunt to score, Cole Calhoun. The final score was 3-2 Los Angeles.

The Angels season has been like a roller coaster ride. From being swept at home, to sweeping the Oakland A’s, and then being swept by the winless Twins. As far as slumps go, it is pretty worrisome, but all it takes is one good game to snap out of it to get the team rolling. The Angels head to Seattle to battle the Mariners in a three game series, wanting to take the lead in the AL west.
