Could Mike Trout play with both Torii Hunter Sr and Jr?

Updated: June 17, 2016

A very familiar name could be entering the Angels organization once again…

The Angels selected Notre Dame center fielder Torii Hunter Jr., the son of the former Angels outfielder and nine-time Gold Glove Award winner, in the 23rd round last week. Hunter Jr also has the potential to make some history as well.

Hunter Sr., who played five seasons (2008-12) in Anaheim, was invited by General Manager Billy Eppler to make the official selection via conference call. The special pick could give current Angels CF Mike Trout the chance to play with both father and son in the big leagues.

“That would be cool,” Trout said. “I know both of them really well. It’s just special to get drafted.”

Hunter Jr was a part-time player on the baseball team in 2015 and 2016, but he may rise in next year given the opportunity to start.  He also can play football pretty good as well. Hunter, a speedy 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior, caught 28 passes for 363 yards as a Notre Dame receiver last fall.

How cool would it be for Mike Trout to play with both Father and son? With Trout being the face of the Angels organization, there should be no reason for him leaving anytime soon. If Hunter Jr can keep up the skills and his fathers genes, he will be in the big leagues in no time.

There is just one small catch, Hunter Jr, Centerfield will always be Trout’s position. Better start choosing between LF or RF!
