Los Angeles Angels (0-1) at Oakland Athletics (1-0)                                                               Game Time: Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 10:05 pm (Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum)                     M Shoemaker (0-0) (0.00) vs. Sean Manaea (0-0) (0.00)                                                             Line: Oakland Athletics -114 / Los Angeles Angels +104                                                                                 Total: 7.5

The Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics play game two of their MLB series Tuesday night at the Oakland Alameda Coliseum.

The Los Angeles Angels look for a bounce back performance after losing opening day, 4-2. The Angels left seven guys on base and struck out 11 times, which is a recipe for a losing effort any night in the big leagues. The good news for the Angles is that Mike Trout and Yunel Escobar seem to be in midseason form with them combining for four hits and a homerun.

The bad news for the Angels is that their pitching staff couldn’t leave the ball in the ballpark, and they walked five batters. The Los Angeles Angels hope to avoid an 0-2 start to the season for the third time in four years. Matt Shoemaker gets the ball, and he was 9-13 with a 3.88 ERA and 143 strikeouts last season. Shoemaker is 4-2 with a 3.48 ERA and 41 strikeouts in his career against the Athletics.

The Oakland Athletics have to be feeling good after a strong performance that was led by Khris Davis and his two homers. Stephen Vogt had a homerun of his own and Jed Lowrie chipped in with two hits. While the batters were doing their part, the Athletics had a pitching staff that controlled the game and make life simple for their defense.

If the offense can be somewhat consistent like they were opening day, this could be a fun team to watch late nights. The Oakland Athletics have a chance to start 2-0 for the first time since the 2004 season. Sean Manaea gets the ball, and he was 7-9 with a 3.86 ERA and 124 strikeouts last season. Manaea is 0-1 with a 3.55 ERA and seven strikeouts in his career against the Angels.

The Oakland Athletics have a little pep in their step and have a chance to start 2-0 for the first time in well over a decade. While it’s obviously early to the season, the Los Angeles Angels looked a lot like the team from last year, and, uh, that’s not a good thing. The Angels are 3-8 in Shoemakers last 11 road starts, and will be pitching for the first time since taking a ball off the dome. Meanwhile, Manaea has had great recent success pitching in Oakland. I like the A’s to get another victory on their home field.

Prediction: Oakland Athletics -114
