Petit’s Efforts Far From Petite As He Makes Roster

Right-handed hurler Yusmeiro Petit was placed on the Angels’ 25-man roster earlier today. It is merely one move, but it further solidifies the overall appearance of the team that they need to have fully assembled within the next few days at the most.

The pitcher originally came to camp as a non-roster invitee, so it accordingly seemed like his chances of making an impact were diminutive. However, he has proven himself quite a bit in his five appearances thus far. He has been north of impressive to convey the very least. He carries a 0.75 ERA and the opposition is sporting a mere .190 batting average against him. In this span, his control has been good due to the fact that he has only given up one walk.

Manager Mike Scioscia recently spoke about Yusmeiro and what he will mean for the team this year. MLB.com writer Maria Guardado has all the latest relative to these comments.

“‘I think he’s a guy that knows his way around some tough situations coming out of the ‘pen,’ manager Mike Scioscia said. ‘He throws strikes. He’s got good command. His stuff is good. I think he’s going to be an important part of our bullpen.’”

The Minor League deal Petit signed back in February required there to be an official decision made today. Thus, the hard work Petit has put in has paid off. For other non-roster invitees such as Blake Parker, the results are not in yet. All Parker and others in his shoes can do is continue to do their thing. Patience is virtue in this case; however, in Parker’s case, the odds are definitely not against him.

Other fragments of their pitching staff are still being tinkered with. Although this is true, to know that the roster is one step closer to completion is fantastic news to be aware of. It means that Angels baseball is right around the bend!
