Possible 2nd Basemen Free Agent Signings For The Angels

Updated: November 14, 2016

Everyone can agree that the Angels have a lot to improve on this offseason, but one area that has to be addressed is the hole at 2nd Base. There are a lot of free agent 2nd baseman available that the Angels will have to make a move on to fill a hole before the 2017 season begins.

Gordon Beckham:

An obvious possible signing is Gordon Beckham,he does have experience with us and could fit back in nicely. Last season he batted .212 with 5 HRs and 31 RBIs, it wouldn’t be a great improvement but it could help with team chemistry.

Stephen Drew:

This would be a good pick up for us bringing a veteran player with postseason experience to our team. He did have pretty decent battings stats, he had a .266/.339/.524 line with 8 homeruns and 21 RBIs.

Andres Blanco:

Another possible signing for 2nd base could be Andres Blanco who played for the Phillies last year and has one of the better batting stats out of the free agents at that position. His line last season was .253/.316/.405. hitting 4 homeruns with 21 RBIs

Kelly Johnson:

Kelly Johnson could be a pretty good signing even though he is 35 he has put up consistent numbers and would be a good place holder until we move someone up from within our farm system which would be preferable. He is a veteran with a lot to offer our younger guys coming up. His batting stats were among the top at free agent 2nd basemen hitting 10 homers and 34 RBIs with a .247 batting average.

In my opinion those should be the 2nd basemen the Halos go after in the offseason if they want someone to jump right in and contribute, there isn’t a great pool of 2nd basemen on the market this year but out of the handful these are the ones who have the most to offer. Hopefully they can get in and do well until we get a good 2B up from our farm system.
