Series Preview: The Boys are Back in Town

Updated: April 7, 2017

The Halos are back in Anaheim for the first time this season! They will take on the Seattle Mariners during their first series at the Big A. Here’s a quick previews of this weekend’s match ups:

Game 1: Yovani Gallardo v. Jesse Chavez @ 7:07 PM

Jesse Chavez will be making his Angel debut on Friday night in a game that should be a hitter’s paradise. Gallardo has only faced the Angels twice in his career, but has an ERA of 7.00 against them. Andrelton Simmons is 5-for-6 against Gallardo in his career with one home run under his belt. Both Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz have averages over .400 against Chavez over their careers. Cruz has three home runs in 14 at-bats against Chavez. Expect this game to get ugly fast.

Game 2: Felix Hernandez v. Ricky Nolasco @ 7:07 PM

King Felix has rarely been a King when facing the Angels over the past few years. While he has a career 3.34 ERA against the Halos, he has problems with the one player everyone has problems with: Mike Trout. In 69 at-bats, Trout is batting an absurd .406 with seven home runs. If you go to a game this weekend, this one is your best bet to reel in a Trout homer.

Game 3: Hisashi Iwakuma v. Matt Shoemaker @ 12:37 PM

Just two starts into his season, Matt Shoemaker will face Kyle Seager, the who’s 105 MPH screamer hit Matt on the side of the head late last season. Shoemaker showed he was just fine in his first start on Tuesday, limiting the Oakland A’s to just two runs in five innings. On the bump for Seattle is a guy who has had great success at Angel Stadium in Hisashi Iwakuma. Iwakuma has a 2.11 career ERA at the Big A, so the Angels have a tough task ahead of them. This matinee matchup should prove to be a pitchers battle.
