Shoemaker Starting for First Time Since Injury

Matt Shoemaker has been penciled into the starting spot for the first time since suffering a fractured skull in early September last year.

Shoemaker, who was out for most of the last month of the season, will be making his return to live game action against the Milwaukee Brewers in Tempe. It is his first live game action since he was hit in the head by a Kyle Seager line drive on September 4. Shoemaker went 9-13 with a 3.88 ERA last season, but impressed during the middle part of the season. He was sent down to AAA in May last season, but recovered nicely once he returned in June. He collected 2.0 WAR last season. He has considered wear protective headgear this season, but there is no word on if he will or not.

It will be interesting to see how Shoemaker attacks hitters in his first game back. I expect him to pitch like he has been, but we could see a little bit of caution being used.
