Spring Training on the Horizon

It is nearly that time. And even though tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, indeed, there are other reasons to love the day and what lies ahead shortly thereafter. Moreover, in view of football now being in the books for a decent spell, that literal and figurative void that is so immensely difficult to articulate can once again be filled.

Pitchers and catchers are set to report for the Halos and undergo standard physicals. The following day the pitchers and catchers will undergo their very first workout of the spring together.

On Friday, the position players will similarly report and have physicals. The subsequent day things will get slightly more serious in scope when the whole ball club is slated to join forces and workout.

Although there are various uncertainties revolving around the Angels, GM Billy Eppler discerns that the unit will need to step it up a notch in order to be reckoned with. According to staff writer Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, Eppler exhibited the following heading into the preseason routine.

“‘Right now, the island of the AL West belongs to Texas,’ the Angels general manager said, referring to the 2016 division champions. ‘We’re looking up at a number of teams. For us to take that island, we’ve got to climb some teams and knock some teams out. Time will tell if we were able to do that.’”

Eppler’s approach may not sound all too optimistic at first blush, but his point demonstrates that the Angels certainly intend to contend. He knows there is work to be done, and, without a doubt, improvement is a must to ensure the Angels have a shot at returning to the promised land that is October baseball.

The squad’s first Cactus League action comes to fruition on Saturday, Feb. 25. They will be hosting the Milwaukee Brewers at 12:10 p.m. PST.

Welcome back Angels fans, MLB supporters, and sports enthusiasts alike. The time is not quite here yet insofar as the real action is concerned, but it is surely getting closer and closer by the minute.
