Now it’s time to roll up the sleeves and straighten up those Halos.  With the second-half of the season about to begin on Friday, the surging Los Angeles Angels are in first place in the AL West – barely.

The rocket fuel fizzled for the Houston Astros before the All-Star break as they lost six in a row and went 2-8 in their final 10 games.  On the other hand, the Angels went 7-3 and own a half-game lead on the Astros.  Only one other time this season did the Angels occupy the top spot in their division – April 17.

With 88 games in the books, there’s 74 to go for the Halos.  The scheduling Gods helped the Angels with a 10-game home stand to kickoff the second-half of the season.  The three visiting teams are the Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers.  Combined they have .500 record.   The Astros play six in a row at home inviting the Rangers and Red Sox into Minute Maid Park.  Then, Houston goes on the road to face the Kansas City Royals who have the best record (52-34) in the American League.  Houston owns the worst road record in their division (21-26).

The second-half of the MLB season begins Friday for the Angels.
