The Angels Injury Bug Strikes Again

Yet another Angels player and starter has gone down as Nick Tropeano was placed on the 15 day DL due to a sore shoulder after being scratched from his start Saturday. The MRI revealed no damage, so he will return likely in 15 days (6/17), and should begin throwing again by the middle of next week. Deolis Guerra was temporarily recalled to give them an extra arm

“NiTro” struggled to start the season after being recalled due to Richard’s and Heaney’s injuries, as his first 7 games he didn’t get past the 6th inning. He then found some magic and threw two great outings of 7 IP, H, ER and 6.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R respectively. His last outing was okay, as he threw 5 innings while allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, and 5 walks on 92 pitches. Nothing was said post game about a possibly injury, but he said today he felt some discomfort after his last start

His next turn was scheduled for Tuesday versus the Yankees, but that leaves many questions as to what the Angels do. Scioscia said Tim Lincecum will not be called up, as he’ll be throwing his 2nd and possibly last Triple-A game Tuesday. Top AAA starter Nate Smith took a no hitter into the 9th on Friday and pitching on Tuesday would give him just 3 days rest.

The Angels will most likely go with a bullpen game, as their only other option is someone like Kyle Kendricks being recalled. However that’ll all depend on how much a toll the bullpen takes this series and Monday

Luckily, Tropeano’s next start was slated for Sunday. That is the day that Tim Lincecum could be recalled to make his Angels debut, barring any complications and/or setbacks leading up to then. Tropeano can return Friday, June 16th, however there will be much debate as to whether he or Jhoulys Chacin should be optioned
