The Angels picked 16th this year in the MLB draft, and with how abysmal their farm system is this draft is an important one. For their first pick they chose 21-year-old Catcher Matt Thaiss out of the University of Virginia. His last season he was hitting .375 with 10 home runs, and an on base percentage of .473.
The Angels obviously picked him for his hitting, he has great bat speed and a great eye determining balls and strikes. His defense is fair behind the plate, but he can for sure sharpen his skills and his bat will only improve the Angels lineup in the near future. Thaiss could possibly make the move to 1st Base because he was mainly picked for his bat, and the Angels did pick a catcher for their first round pick last year.
Halo fans give a warm welcome to Matt Thaiss!
