Angels Acquire David Murphy From The Indians

After pulling the trigger earlier today on a trade for David DeJesus, the Angels acquired another corner outfielder, David Murphy from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for prospect, Eric Stamets. Murphy was linked to the Angels for quite some time, according Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Murphy is likely to be platooned in left field with recently acquired Shane Victorino, although he can also see time at DH, and platoon with C.J Cron. Murphy  is slashing .296/.344/.437 with five homers in 229 plate appearances this season. He is currently making 6 million on his deal, with a 500k buyout or team option for 7 million in 2016. On the Angels end, they give up their number 23 overall prospect in their system, Eric Stamets, who was a sixth round by them in 2012. He is defensive minded having one of best gloves in the minor, but has hit just .248 with three homers in 241 at bats this season.
