The Angels were on the brick of falling apart before they headed to Seattle to face the Mariners, but out of all the odds, the Halo’s look to be back and ready to play some baseball with a huge sweep against Felix Hernandez. Game 1 consisted of the Angels coming back in the 8th and 9th inning where C.J. Cron led the charge to snap a 6 game losing streak, Game 2 consisted of Albert Pujols bat flipping his way to give the Angels a huge come from behind win, and finally Game 3 consisted of Hector Santiago out dueling the king himself Felix Hernandez.
Today’s game was fast and quick to the punch. It was a pitching duel between Hector Santiago and King Felix as both of them went far in this one. Let’s begin with Santiago as he only gave up 2 hits through 8 Innings. Santiago allowed his first hit of the game in the 6th Inning, thanks to some bush league bunt. Stay classy Mariners. Hats off for Santiago in today’s sweep.
For Felix and the Mariners, he also put on a show for his fans in a way. Hernandez went 7 and 1/3 innings with allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs. Hernandez also had a season high 9 strikeouts. The Angels scored their first run of the game in the 5th Inning as Kole Calhoun capitalized on a Johnny Giavotella double. With Giavotella on 2nd, Calhoun connected on his first RBI against Hernandez as he sent the pitch right back up the middle. Angels now led 1-0 with a commanding Santiago.
The Angels would also capitalized after the Mariners took out Hernandez as they would add-on another two runs in the 8th Inning. A two-out, two-run single by Daniel Nava, his fifth in the last four games, and the Angels now had a 3-0 lead. It was over. The Angels took it to Seattle and came out with a sweep! The Angels now have the freeway series.
