Last night was a pitchers duel, and today was an absolute slugfest for both teams. Angels come out on top.
Hector Santiago, took the mound in this mash-up. It was not a dominant pitching performance on any scale. Plenty home runs haunted both teams tonight. C. J. Cron, opened up the ball game in the first inning by hitting a two-run home run to start off th hit fest.
Home runs hit Santiago as well, he surrendered two solo shots of his own. After that he was effective enough, to deserve a win. He pounded the strike zone throughout the game, but location is still hurting the lefty pitcher. In the third inning, Mike Trout helps the cause by crushing a three-run shot to straight away center field giving the Angels a three run lead. The Angels offense did not stop there, Jefry Marte was called up today from the minors, went 4-for-4 only a triple away from the cycle. Through the first four innings, the Angels scored a total of nine runs but remained quiet the next four innings.
As quickly as the Angels scored runs the bullpen, gave up just as much. Unable to hold the lead, walks and mistakes in location would cause them to lose the lead in the 8th inning. A shut down inning but the closer Huston Street, would provide the Angels with a chance to walk it off in the ninth.
The Angels win it in walk off style thanks to C.J. Cron. Albert Pujols, worked a walk, then Shane Robinson pinch ran for the Angel slugger. It did not matter since he jogged home, Thanks to a mammoth two-run home run by Cron. The final score 11-9.
