Update 4:53 PM Angels GM Billy Eppler confirms Garrett Richards is having a stem cell injection today, in hopes of avoiding TJ surgery.
Update 4:44 PM Garret Richards will undergo stem-cell therapy, and not the PRP shot like Andrew Heaney got a while back ago.
Angels starting pitcher Garret Richards has been on the DL for quite some time now, and has made an interesting decision where he will not undergo Tommy John Surgery. Richards is getting something similar to a PRP shot today, will be shut down for six solid weeks.
Even with the injury and set back of six weeks, Richards still has a high chance of not returning in 2017. Angels SP Andrew Heaney basically got the same thing, as they are trying the non-surgical route first in hopes of avoiding surgery. This could be a good move for Richards if he heals without surgery. Time will only tell how bad Richards injury really is.
