The Angels were swept by the St. Louis, Cardinals. Today was a valiant effort by the Angels, but again they came up short losing it 12-10.
Jared Weaver, squared up against, Adam Wainwright, each pitcher not afraid to live in the strike zone and it showed today. Weaver, was able to go 4 innings and was only dominant in 3. In this, outing, Weaver, allowed 8 earned runs, but it started in the fourth the Cards tied the game at 3. After the Angels, were able to take back the lead, then the over worked bullpen was unable to hold the Cardinals down. Starting pitching has been a mess this past week, the bullpen is not to blame.
What seemed like a heavyweight fight between the teams. The Angels, struck first with a 2 Rbi single by Cole Calhoun. Cards, came back to the plate scoring 3. The Angels, weren’t satisfied with being down scoring 3 of their own, taking the lead again, 5-3 in the 4th. The Cardinals, just over powered the angels pitching scoring 12 runs and 18 hits.
Although the Angels, were down they did not give up. They became within striking distance after a 2 run homer by, Albert Pujols in the 9th. It’s 12-10 the bases are loaded, but the halos are unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position. It seemed like the offense was ready to win it today as the lineup was able to tally 10 runs and 15 hits with two costly errors. Final score 12-10.
Maybe after a road game, all the team needs is one good outing from a starting pitcher. This team can score runs but everything needs to fall in place. All it takes is one good game to get the ball rolling for this heartless Angel ball club. Watch them tomorrow as they take on the West leading Seattle Mariners.
